I’ve been using a Lenovo ThinkPad for work but when I tried the Lenovo Legion Slim 5, I switched. Also according to ZDNet, this gaming laptop is good for gaming and getting things done. I’ll tell you why it’s my new favorite and it’s available to buy now.
The Lenovo Legion Slim 5 is super portable with its thin and light body weighing only 2.4kg. My ThinkPad is heavier and looks ancient. The 16-inch Legion Slim 5 display has 2560×1600 resolution, 165Hz refresh rate and vibrant colors perfect for gaming and productivity.
With an AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS and Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060, the specs of this machine is great and can handle demanding apps with ease. I use it without any problem for coding, video editing and playing games like Baldur’s Gate 3. Everything runs smoothly with 1TB SSD and 16GB RAM.
The battery life of the Legion Slim 5 can last up to 8 hours for general use like writing or watching videos. For gaming laptop, it’s about 2-3 hours for resource intensive games which is decent. I like its fast charging, in 30 minutes you can get half of the battery.
I was also impressed with the keyboard of this device. The keys are soft and very responsive and the configurable RGB lighting is cool when used in low light. The ThinkPad keyboard is good but the Legion Slim 5 is more fun to use especially for long typing sessions.
The laptop is easy to configure using the Lenovo Vantage app. With just a few clicks I can switch the power mode or manage the fan. The high performance mode is for gaming and the power saving mode is for outdoor use.
One downside is the fan can be loud when playing games with high graphics requirements. The sound can be annoying if you’re in a quiet space but since I use headphones when gaming, it’s not a problem. My ThinkPad is quieter but it’s slower when handling big apps.
And it has all the ports, HDMI, headphone jack, 2x USB-A and 2x USB-C. I can plug in an external monitor and mouse without a dongle unlike some ThinkPad models. Everything is fast and stable with Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6E.
The Lenovo Legion Slim 5 is now at $1,200 and that’s a steal considering the specs, down from the original price of $1,500. I never had it fail me and I use it for work and play. Check this out if you’re looking for a laptop that can do anything.
The Legion Slim 5 looks more modern than the ThinkPad I’ve been using for years. For those who want a device that can do both work and play, it’s fast, powerful and beautiful. I still love the ThinkPad but I’m now a full blown Legion Slim 5 fan.
