The M5 MacBook that’s all the fuss about. According to a recent report by Gizmodo, due to Intel’s troubles, Apple is no longer in a hurry to release new MacBooks every year. The article published on July 11, 2025, said Intel’s new CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, told employees the company is in crisis and this is an opportunity for Apple. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the M5 MacBook has been delayed from 2025 to early 2026. Let’s find out why and what it means.
For the past few years Apple has been killing it with the M-series chips. Since switching from Intel processors to Apple silicon in 2020, the MacBook Air and Pro have seen huge performance gains. But due to Intel’s weakness and Nvidia’s dominance in the AI chip market, Apple no longer feels the need for annual hardware updates. No major changes expected in the M5 MacBook, just minor updates with the new chip. This will give Apple more time to focus on design and software.
The report says no new MacBook Pro will be released in 2025. Instead the M5 MacBook will launch in the first half of 2026. Previously Apple used to release the MacBook Air in January and the MacBook Pro in September-October every year but now that pattern may change. This could be good for consumers as it will eliminate the need to upgrade every year. The current M4 MacBook models are still performing great and the design doesn’t change much year after year.
On the other hand Apple will continue to work on other products. According to Gurman the iPhone will launch on September 17, 2025 along with iOS 26 and new Apple Watch updates. Maybe a new version of the Vision Pro headset will also launch in 2025 which will be more comfortable than the first gen. But the delay of the M5 MacBook means Apple is no longer in a rush in the hardware game. This could also be good for the environment as producing new devices every year will reduce electronic waste.

On social media the reaction is divided. Some are calling it Apple’s smart move, others are sad they have to wait for the M5 MacBook. There’s also talk that Intel’s weakness will benefit Apple and they will invest more in their silicon chips. In the future the price and specs of the MacBook may change.
