Texas floods have killed at least 51 and 27 girls missing. Camp Mystic on the Guadalupe River is where the disaster happened. Let’s learn more about the Texas flood.

Kerr County, Texas had heavy rain on July 4 night. In 2 hours the Guadalupe River rose 20 feet. This Texas flash flood was sudden. One of the Christian summer camps for girls, Camp Mystic, was flooded. Of the 750 girls in the camp, 27 are still unaccounted for. In Kerr County 43 people died including 15 children.

Many homes, cars and campgrounds were destroyed by this Texas flash flood. Rescue teams are searching with helicopters, boats and drones. Some were rescued hanging from trees and stranded on roofs of homes. There are still 27 girls missing according to Kerrville City Manager Dalton Rice. This Texas flood is intense.

Governor Greg Abbott called the flash flood a “big disaster”. He visited Camp Mystic on Saturday. He said he will work tirelessly to find every missing person. Of the 850 people rescued so far 167 were rescued by helicopters. Search and rescue is ongoing 24/7.

At Camp Mystic this Texas flood was a nightmare flash flood. 8 year old Sarah Marsh is no longer alive. One other camp director was killed. Some of the girls were swept away by the water, others were found clinging to trees. The force of the flash flood is shown in these pictures. Debris is being searched as part of the search.

Although the National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning Thursday night the flash flooding from this Texas flood was worse than expected. 10 to 15 inches of rain fell in a few hours which is half the rain of an entire year. “Nobody expected this much rain” said Kerr County Judge Rob Kelly. “Some people think these warnings are not enough.

”The Texas floods have destroyed many families. In Ingram, Julian Ryan, a restaurant worker, was swept away with his future wife and 6 year old son. At the Kerrville Reunification Center families are waiting for their kids. Some are smiling, others are waiting.
